The Builders' Sunday School Class had a marvelous trip to the North Georgia Mountains on Thursday, November 8, 2012. Seventeen people boarded the church van and a car and as they traveled north they witnessed the beauty of God's creation in all the colors of the fall foliage. The group stopped at Mercier's Orchard in Blue Ridge to shop and drove to Blairsville for lunch at Rib Country. The highlight of the trip was going to Mary Cheves' cabin in Cherry Log. Our wonderful hostess served hot apple cider and coffee along with cake and an assortments of desserts.
Pastor Jamie Lambert was the chauffeur and is to be commended for putting up with the "old folks." The class greatly appreciated the hospitality extended by our hostess Mary and enjoyed the time spent in her beautiful mountain home. Advent (from the Latin adventus, meaning "coming" or "arrival") is the four-week season of preparation for the coming of Jesus at Christmas. A good celebration requires proper preparation for us to fully enjoy it. During December, however, we mostly confuse helpful readiness for the hustle of Christmas shopping, parties, and preparations. The Advent season, more reflective in nature, can feel out of sync with all this noise and busyness.
More than just remembering Christ's first arrival, Advent hopes for Christ's second coming. Advent is a season of expectant waiting, tapping into the sense we have that all is not well, the longing for the world to be made right again. It's a season for restless hearts and people weary of a broken world who want, with all our being, to know there's more than this. Advent cultivates in us a discerning eye, helping us to spot the sin that clutters our lives and notice all the ways we need to be saved. By helping us hope intensely for restoration, to feel our own need to be saved, Advent prepares us for genuine Christmas joy and faith in the One who saves us from our sin, Jesus. - from Philip Reinders' Seeking God's Face Enjoy these pictures from the Southside PCA Churches' Baseball Game. South Atlanta Community Church, Redemption Fellowship, and Covenant came together to enjoy some baseball, food, and fellowship.
Camp Covenant served as the Mission Trip for our youth. Our crew was joined by the youth from Grace Presbyterian from Chelsea, AL. They spent their nights in the church and the weekdays ministering to 50 children from our community. They were incredible! I would take this team anywhere!
