Ashley Lanier
Reformed University Fellowship (RUF)
Air Force Academy
Colorado Spring, Colorado
[email protected]
Duties, responsibilities, and work emphases:
As the RUF intern at the United States Air Force Academy, Ashley's main responsibility is outreach and forming relationships with the female cadets. This includes assisting with organizing and leading Large Group, creating an RUF church carpool to help connect cadets to the local churches, teaching a small group a semester, putting together social events with the intent to create community, and most prominently, having one on ones with female cadets. As an intern, my main emphasis, particularly with one on ones, is "freshman and fringe." These will be the girls who are coming to RUF but aren't plugged into the community. We want RUF to be a place where cadets from all backgrounds, beliefs, and personality types can find love, support, and deep friendships all based in the gospel. In addition to outreach and relationships, another big part of the job is to cultivate and grow my faith and theological knowledge by completing a study plan and getting involved and joining a local church. The study plan is a monthly outline where I am responsible for reading and studying 1 to 4 books from a predetermined list, 2 to 4 books of the Bible, and a few questions from the Westminster Catechisms and Confession of Faith each month.
A little bit personal:
Ashley just graduated this past May from the University of Georgia and was born and raised in Savannah, GA. She grew up and continues to love going to the UGA football games (GO DAWGS!) and spending time on the river (tubing, jumping off the dock, etc.). She has always had a desire to move out west for a few years, and God used that and her love for RUF to lead her to the internship at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado!
Favorite movies: Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, both Avatars
Favorite pastimes: horseback riding, reading and audiobooks, movie nights/coffee dates with friends
Prayer needs (or points of focus):

Prayer needs (or points of focus):
- Pray that Ashley finds a community and friends in a new and far from home city.
- Pray that the Lord works in and through Ashley to reach the cadets at USAFA.
- Pray that many cadets will find community and the good news of the gospel at RUF.
- Life at a military academy is hard and many cadets struggle mentally, physically, and emotionally. Pray that the Lord would strengthen and equip them to balance school, sports, and clubs while making time for rest, church, and Christian community. Also pray that He would give them peace, joy, and graciousness with themselves and others in this hard environment.
