Duties, responsibilities, work emphases:
Rodney is the team leader for MTW Costa Rica and so is involved in recruitment, communication, administration as well as other duties that come up. Their ministry is primarily to come alongside of ICRICEN (Central American Christian Church) to empower and equip them in their vision and ministry for a Reformed church-planting movement
in Costa Rica and throughout Central America. That includes: church planting, mentoring, discipling, leadership development (classes/conferences), evangelism, teaching, and trauma counseling.
Jana is involved with the women’s ministry, discipleship, and logistic/administration responsibilities. Rodney and Jana also facilitate training in counseling and are working to open opportunities for community development. They welcome teams to come for a week and join us with their ministry as they have several ongoing construction sites and ministry opportunities in their churches. They normally host 6‑10 teams a year.
Rodney and Jana send out an email update every 2‑3 months. We trust that you all are receiving their email updates that contain more current prayer concerns.
A little bit personal:
The Davilas are doing well during this season of the Covid-19 pandemic. Costa Rica has done a very good job of managing the crisis and containing infection within the country. As of mid-May, the national borders remained closed. And, as with many working for the Lord in foreign lands, the Davilas ministry is being conducted virtually.
In normal times, Rodney enjoys technology, news, and exercise. He enjoys dark chocolate, watching movies and Costa Rican food.
Jana enjoys crafts, reading books and playing games. She is a cat lover (they have 2 wacky cats) and misses Chick‑fil‑a.

Prayer needs (or points of focus):
- Pray that they will be creative in how they can connect safely with those they minister to.
- Pray that they will be continue to be wise and patient as they obey the laws of the country with respect to social distancing and honoring restrictions on closed establishments and areas. (Costa Rica has one of the best histories of effectively managing the outbreak of Covid-19. As of May 13, Costa Rica has had the lowest case fatality rate in the Americas at about 0.86%, with only 7 deaths out of 815 positive cases. The national borders are closed with restricted entry for only Costa Rica nationals and legal residents and will be so until June 15th.)
- Pray for their son Christopher who was supposed to spend the summer with the Davilas after he graduated from Covenant College in May 2020.
- Pray for their daughter, Alyssa, who graduated in May 2019 from Covenant College and continues living and working the Chattanooga area.
- Prayer for their new intern, Margaret Baker, who arrived in Costa Rica March 11th. She, too, is learning how to connect with people virtually.
- Continued prayer is requested for their national pastor and partner, Moises Campos and his wife Maribel. Maribel has chronic health issues which are very difficult and expensive. Pray for Moises as he is discipling other leaders, that he would be wise and discerning. Their son got married in May 2019, and that shifts things a bit for them, financially as well as downsizing.
- Continued prayer is requested for the funding needed for Moises Campos for a pastoral donation that allows him the freedom to work full time in ministry. He is needing $500/month and it is given through the project #92760.
- Pray for Miguel and Ingrid Moreno, pastoring the church in La Montana and helping with another church plant in Juan Diaz; pray for their financial needs, and their marriage, and for wisdom in ministry.
- Pray for more Human Resources, both missionaries as well as potential leaders, both men and women, to step up and take responsibility. Pray for their current leaders to continue to grow in their faith and understanding of the gospel.
