Duties, responsibilities, work emphases:

As with all our partners, the Mussers have embraced the challenges of life with COVID-19. In Spain last year (one of several global hotspots in 2020) and continued on with their work. Like many of us, they have used the time at home to see how Psalm 46:10 can make certain times during the days and weeks of isolation be special: “Be still and know that I am God.”

The LIFE International School in Tres Cantos, Madrid, Spain, was founded by Scot and Carol Musser and a host of supporters “to equip students with a quality holistic education that inspires excellence in academics, moral character, and service to others (…”preparar a los estudiantes para la vida a través de una educación holística de calidad que fomenta a la excelencia académica, el carácter moral, y el servicio a los demás).” LIFE stands for Love, Integrity, Faith, and Excellence – the four core life values around which the school was established.

Scot serves as Director of LIFE International School after serving as a Headmaster for an English-speaking Christian school in eastern Spain and completing his doctoral studies in education. In 2017, LIFE opened offering preschool through kindergarten (ages 3-5). In 2019, classes at the 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade levels were added, and LIFE will offer new grades each year until a full range of education is available for students 3 to 18 years of age. The 2020-21 school year brought 43 students to the LIFE school in the classes in preschool 3 years old through the 6th grade. Individual accomplishments with school and personal growth are being clearly observed, for which they are grateful.

A little bit personal:

Favorite pastime:  They enjoy Hospitality – spending time with people. Scot also enjoys following sports

Favorite food: They love fresh Spanish baguette bread at about 65 cents a loaf!

Favorite book/movie: They like to read or watch true stories of heroes of the faith: Richard Wurmbrand [Voice of the Martyrs], Hudson Taylor [China Inland Mission] (books: J. Hudson Taylor: an autobiography; Hudson Taylor and China’s Open Century; among others), Bob Fu [China Aid] (book: God’s Double Agent), Dr Ernie Steury [World Gospel Mission] (book: Miracle at Tenwek), etc.

Prayer needs:

  • That God’s Word would take root in the hearts and minds of our students and parents!

  • For successful meetings and interviews for prospective staff and teachers. For English-speaking teachers and instructional assistants, board members, and other volunteers both for this year and the years to come.

  • Visa support for each of the staff and leadership as needs require so that renewal requirements do not adversely affect teaching and other necessary duties.

  • Scot’s recovery from surgery to repair a broken bone in his leg sustained by a fall on ice following a big snowstorm in Spain.

  • For additional students to enroll to help the school meet financial needs without outside funding. These next few months we will be planning and organizing events to help promote the school.

  • Also, pray for us as we seek to know God’s will in deciding if, where, and when to buy land for the school.

  • Please pray for fund raising, which will go toward meeting needs for the next few years and beyond.

  • For casting a vision for how Christian education can help resource children for the challenges of living their faith in a society which is increasingly hostile to people of faith.
