We are so thankful that your student is participating in Covenant's ministry to teens. It's a unique time in life full of challenges and great opportunity. From the beginning, we want to be clear about a few things we believe about youth ministry.
1. They are capable The famous youth ministry verse 1 Timothy 4:12 makes a really interesting point. Not only should we not "look down on the young," but the Bible expects them to set an example for other believers! Our culture sets low expectations for your youth, and sometimes the church joins in. At Covenant, we believe youth are capable of great things and we want to give them opportunities to serve and to grow.
2. It's your responsibility The Bible puts the responsibility of raising children in Christ on parents. In our society, we're used to sending our children to specialists (and rightly so). We send our children to schools to learn, doctors to get better, coaches to grow as athletes, and church to learn about God. The problem with that mentality is that the Bible teaches that the greatest place where children will learn to love God and build their lives around Jesus is at home.
3. It's our responsibility Nervous yet? Don't worry, this is where we come in! The place of the church is to come beside you to help! To resource you. To pray for you. To give your family opportunities to serve and grow. Do not hesitate to ask questions. Do not be afraid to be broken, needy, and lost. Do not feel alone.
We are a community of sinners in need of Jesus. We're following Him and we're learning together. Covenant is a safe place. Join us.
